Festival or Organisation description:
Founded in 2003, the Oxford Human Rights Festival is an initiative of post graduate students on the MA course in Development and Emergency Practice at Oxford Brookes University. In attracting diverse audiences to each of our events, the festival hopes to raise awareness about a range of human rights concerns among Brookes students and the wider Oxford community. The festival is open to everyone and most events are free. Each year the festival presents an exhibition and a wide range of film, performance and workshop events, engages academics, film makers, practioners, and artists, and invites lively audience discussions. The theme of the 2018 festival is Identity and we will be exploring these issues in terms of gender, sexuality, nationality, race, ability, class, wealth, and religious beliefs, and look at how each of these facets of who were are have been used as reasons for persecution across the world and here in the UK.
