Edinburgh's Hogmanay

Dates:

30-12-2017 to 01-1-2018

Festival or Organisation description:

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is a world-class three day festival, which brings the city to life with a variety of incredible events to mark the end of 2016 and welcome in 2017.

The spectacular opening event is the Torchlight Procession. Last year’s event welcomed over 40,000 people to this world renowned family event.

Thousands of torch carriers led by Vikings from Shetland illuminate the city centre culminating with a spectacular fireworks finale.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at one of three extraordinary events. Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party, one of the world's biggest outdoor parties set against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, sees party people from all over the world gather to bring in the New Year in style!

Live bands and DJs fill the Edinburgh streets with music, as the city centre comes alive with festivities and hourly fireworks from 9pm.

The Midnight Moment sees over six tonnes of pyrotechnics launched from the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle heralding the New Year with a spectacular show.

Set directly beneath Edinburgh Castle, Concert in the Gardens has the best view in the house with a sound and visual feast from a world-class Headliner but get your tickets quick, this event always sells out!

For a more traditional New Year’s Eve experience, the Old Town Ceilidh offers the very best in traditional music, ceilidh dancing and food & drink at the very heart of the capital’s historic Old Town.

Welcome 2017 with a splash by taking part in the breath-taking Stoats Loony Dook at South Queensferry – the annual dip in the freezing River Forth in the shadow of the world-famous Forth Bridge.

For a more cultured experience join us on an adventurous journey experiencing the very best in music, art and theatre, created and curated by Scotland’s most innovative artists and musicians at Scot:Lands.
